Metalships & Docks owns large workshops dedicated for large steelworks, mechanical, electrical and carpentry works. All of our workshops and warehouses have significant overhead cranage capacity :

Metalship’s strategy of implementing a reliable local subcontractors network, with highly specialized and homologated staff by the Class Societies, enable us to increase the range of repair works that can be carried out internally in our workshops with all those that can be performed at subcontractor’s workshops, offering altogether all the proper works of a large Ship Repair Center with all the necessary machinery of latest technology in order to achieve high quality output at maximum productivity (high precision lathes CNC, milling machines, oxycut plasma, press brakes, gooseneck press, hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic Bender, punching shear, etc).

Hereby we provide a brief description of the repairs works that can be carried out in our yard or in Vigo area, throughout the yard:

Drydocking works:

Propellers, shafting lines, tailshafts, stern tubes, rudders, sea valves, sea chests, cathodic protection, tank testing, renewal of hull platings and structures.

Cleaning and painting.

HP washing, chipping with rotary wire brushes, degreasing with chemicals, slurry blasting, gas-free, slop removal and disposing off, painting by hand spraying (conventional and silicon paints).

Piping and fittings.

The vast quantity of pipes aboard ship’s of all types, and in particular the extensive piping found on tankers, gas carriers, etc, mean that repair and replacement of pipes and valves is one of the major activities of any repair yard. Pipe workshops at Metalships and its associated auxiliaries industries are fully equiped with machinery to allow even the most extensive and complicated pipe repairs to be undertaken in such areas as cargo, ballast, heating coils and hydraulic systems.

One of our specialities is the prefabrication of carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless, cupronickel, copper, etc. pipes. Using isometric designs for all type of ships and platforms, made applying the strictest quality standards and regulations established by the different classification companies, using certified "SAW", "MIG-MAG", "GMAW", "FCAW", "TIG" and "GTAW" welding procedures. Metalships can manufacture piping for double bottoms, engine rooms, cabins, deck loading systems, tank heating, etc.

We have personnel with experience in fitting isometric and schematic pipes, connecting them with motors, pumps, filters, heat exchangers, valves, measurement and control equipment, pre-commissioning, testing, navigation assistance.

Steel works:

  • Covered steel fabrication shops in Vigo, fully equipped for cutting, forming & welding of steel and aluminium plates and profiles.
  • Several computer controlled (CAD-CAM) equipment to ensure precision work.
  • IACS Classification approved welders for welding steel, stainless steel and aluminium alloys.
  • Plasma and laser cutting machines.
  • NC Profile cutting machines.
  • Steelwork on board and in heavy equipped workshop.
  • The dimensions of our workshops enabling us to all kind of works such prefabrication of steel parts before fitting on board.

Engine and Equipment Works:

Inspection and repair of marine engines of all international kinds, boilers, separators, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, condensers, bearings remetalling and renewal.

Deck equipment:

Repair and renewal of parts and testing of cargo handling equipment, cargo booms, overhauling and repairing of winches.

Carpentry and accommodation works.

Supply and installation of:
Deck coverings, both metallic and wooden furnitures, thermal insulation, piping insulation, fire insulation, catering equipment, application of polyurethane and GRP, freezer doors, refrigerated chambers.

Electrical works:

  • Installation of all kinds of ship’s power equipment, signalling and navigation equipment, telecommunication.
  • Repair of control automatics and protection of all deck, cargo and other gears in engine room.
  • Manufacture of all kinds of ship’s electrical installations.
  • Electromotor and generator drive’s repair.
  • Integral maintenance on electrical machines: replacing of bearings, cleaning with dielectric liquid, windings varnishing and stove; function test and insulation measurements.
